Presidents Message

The 51 st Toledo Weak Signals R/C Expo has come and gone. Although the decrease in attendance was noticeable, all in all the show was still a very good success. I wish to thank the total dedication of two of the hardest working club members that a club has ever had. Wayne Yeager and Rick Lederman both put in an untold number of hours of preparation for the show every year. Many people remark as to how smooth the show runs. They remark on how everything is thought of ahead of time. They remark how everything is in place when needed. It is only because of the planning and persistence of these two individuals that all of this happens. The club owes Wayne and Rick a great big thank you.

The manufacturers for the most part seemed to be pleased with the activity in their booths. Many mentioned that their Friday sales were the best they have ever had. They agreed that although the attendance was lower it seemed that sales were still very brisk.

I would also like to thank every member of the Toledo Weak Signals for their hard work all week-end. I do not know of any major problems that happened at this year’s Expo. Every member did a fantastic job. Thank you.

I need to recognize others that put in additional time for the Expo. The entire Expo committee are a great bunch of hard working members. Besides the Co-Directors, Wayne Yeager and Rick Lederman, the following committee members work very hard. Paul Trestan-Finance, Tom Como-Security, Mel Holman-Awards, Dave Whitaker-Raffle, Mike Bayes-Judging, Joe Vislay-Model Displays, Jim Skolmowski-Communications, Brian Harris-Parking, Dave Howard-Swap Shop, Bill Comber-Symposiums.

During the Expo week-end, an electric flying tournament was held. If my information is correct, Scott Foster took top place in that competition. I believe that Andrew Jesky took 7 th place. This is a very significant event. The competitors had to be invited to compete. There were many great flyers competing. Congratulations to Scott and Andrew. Scott Foster is featured on Hobby Lobby’s web site at http://www.hobby-lobby.com/ezone.htm?c1=ezone&source=ezonejpg . Scott is very ingenious; he has developed a reversible pitch propeller system for indoor electric aircraft.

Now everyone can concentrate on getting there aircraft tuned up for flying. Monday night sailplane league will be starting soon, and if you have not signed up yet, you need to contact Brian Harris or Jim Skolmowski. I did notice that several new sailplanes were purchased at the Expo. It appears that the competition is getting intense.

John Root has taken delivery of the new golf cart at the field. This cart has 2 additional seats added to it to take passengers out to the flight lines. Some of us old beat up codgers will really enjoy this. As an added feature, the rear seats fold down and make a nice flat bed carrying surface. Please let me caution all members. Just because there are added seats, additional people should not be just riding for the fun of riding. This would include children. It would be best if children were not in the rear seat for safety purposes. Children should not be in the carts for the thrill of riding. Please understand this. Now that we have 3 carts, one of the carts will be housed inside the clubhouse as it was when we had the tractor there. There is a chain and a large eye bolt in the wall to secure the cart with. Please use the chain to lock the cart to the eye bolt in the wall.

The weather station now has the correct time and seems to be functioning well. It is time to get out and fly.

That’s all for now

Dave Whitaker
