On Saturday, July 24, 2004 the Weak Signals Club hosted a family picnic. It was a great success to say the least. The weather was quite nice, but it was a little breezy. We had a very large number of people. The estimate I heard was there were 150 people.

I feel Bill Cunningham is the biggest reason for the success of this day. Bill organized everything for a great family day. Bill made it a true family picnic by having his sister Wanda and brother-in-law Bob Bakkedahl come all the way from California to participate. Bill also had his daughter Debbie and son-in-law Chi Siong Ko (a.k.a. Josh) travel from Bowling Green, Ohio. Bill’s wife Marlene was there to make sure Bill did everything right. However, Bill put all his relatives to work, and they worked very hard. Bill had additional help from club members Lee Hertzsch, and Dan Mikolajczyk. Dan welded up some new grills to cook on and Lee helped with the cooking. We had Bill, Lee, Bob, and Josh cooking all at the same time. We had some great food. We had chicken, kielbasa, corn on the cob, baked beans, potato salad, cole slaw, and cake. Boy what a feast. The club members thank all these people for the hard work they did. It was a great success.

I would also like to thank Dave Myers for his efforts during the picnic. Dave kept an eye on the flight line and more important, he had some kid activities and some awards for them. The all took home a hand tossed glider. Good job Dave.

We are in the middle of our contest season. We flew Old Timers and Sailplanes and we had a good turn out for both contests. Ron Kuyoth has been in the club for about a year and he volunteered to run the sailplane contest. He did a great job. Everyone had a great time. I would like to thank all of our contest directors, this is sometimes a thank less job. The club appreciates your efforts.

The Monday night sailplane league is still going very strong. More and more club members are becoming very good sailplaners.

I have appointed Ron Webb chairman of the elections committee. If you have a desire to serve the club as an officer, please talk to Ron Webb. Elections take place the second meeting in September.

There have been some changes to the by-laws, they will be listed in the newsletter. Please make sure you understand the changes.

Ed Zieman has been in the hospital, please keep Ed in your thoughts

That’s all for now
