Presidents Message
The dog days of summer are upon us. Boy has it been hot. I want to remind everyone of the Picnic scheduled for August 21, 2005. This is the same day as the pylon race. The idea is to have the picnic right after the racing. Bill Cunningham is running the picnic with his trusty sidekick Lee Hertzsch. There is going to be a pig roasted at the field and there will also be chicken on the Bar-B. This year the club will be furnishing all the food. Due to the limited amount of seating, you may want to consider bringing your own shade, tables and chairs. In order for Bill to know how much food to purchase, we need to know how many people in your family will be attending. You can see Bill at a meeting or send him an e-mail at wcunningham@chartermi.net. Bill’s phone number is 734-587-3605. It is time to start thinking about elections for next year’s club officers. I have appointed Bill Cunningham as Chairman of the Nomination Committee. If you are interested in running for a club officer position, please contact Bill Cunningham. Don’t be afraid to help lead the club. It is rewarding and it is not that hard of a job. Don’t worry there are always a lot of people to help. The elections will be held the second meeting in September on September 22, 2005. You have received a separate mailing pertaining to a By-law change proposal. I feel that this is the best direction for the club at the present time. I hope that all members support this by-law. It really is not too much to ask. I expect this proposal to be in you hands for 30 days and then vote on it on the next meeting which should be the first meeting in September on the 8 th of September, 2005. Please plan ahead and mark your calendars for our Weak Signal’s Banquet. It will be on Saturday November 5, 2005. This year we will be going back to the Radisson downtown. We are arranging for the parking to be paid so you will not have to pay for your parking. Plan on attending the Banquet for some good times and good food and good friendship. More information will follow as it becomes available. The club sailplane winches sure are getting a work out. It is important that you do you part to help keep them in good shape. Please place the batteries back on charge after use. Make sure you use the chart that is posted right above the winches. You have to press the right buttons on the chargers for them to work properly. Also make sure that you pick up the wire line guide when winding up the winches. Don’t leave them out for Ron Webb to find with the mower. It could be dangerous. I wish to thank John Root and especially Bill Cunningham. They have performed general maintenance on the winches and everything is in tip top shape. Please thank these gentlemen when you get a chance. We have another important issue to solve. Stacy Lloyd has been serving as Safety Officer. Due to changes at his work he has had to stand down from that position. We are in need of someone to take his place. It is very important that we have a Safety Officer. It is also required by A. M. A. It is necessary for the Safety Officer to have e-mail capability. I would like to hear from anyone club member who would consider serving the club in this position. I will them present these volunteers to the Board of Directors. This position is an appointed position by the Board. Please contact if you can serve. My contact info is dwhitaker@buckeye-express.com. Or call 419-474-8652. The club needs your help. Several weeks ago during a storm, our weather meter was attacked by lightning bolts. The weather meter lost. It lost big time. The phone voice module was fried big time. Rick Lederman has been working to get this info station up and running again. When he contacted the company, the voice module was on back order. At that time it was going to take about 4 weeks to get them in. Rick is working on it and we will have it back in service as soon as possible. Hurry up Rick. Dave Myers has been developing the plan for the club plane. The choices are from 6 different planes. In the sailplane category you can chose from the Great Planes Spirit 100 ARF or the Skybird kit from Skybench Aerotech. In the sport plane category you can chose from a Great Planes Kaos 40 ARF or Kit with an O.S. .40 engine, or a Viper racer with a Magnum .28. In the Old Timer category, you have a choice of a Lonzo Racer Kit or Cloud Queen Kit. Dave Myers has all of the details. Dave Myers will be in charge of all the tracking and accounting for the club plane program. If you have questions, please talk to Dave Myers. His e-mail is djmyers@buckeye-express.com or call 419-690-4575. The full program is for the 2006 season but you can get started now. The Monday night sailplane league is still going strong. Unfortunately the weather has not been cooperative. It has rained a couple of times. If you have not been out to watch the sailplanes, come on out. You are still permitted to fly a sailplane even if you are not on a team. You may still fly and some of the experts are available to help you learn more if you wish. You don’t have to be on a team to fly. Come out and fly your sailplane for fun. That’s all for now Dave WhitakerFrequency Distribution Chart |
