Click Here to see the memory of John D. Myers

On February 28, 2005, we lost a long time member. John D. Myers passed away. John had a great desire for aviation. As a young person, he flew Spitfires for the Royal Air Force in the War. He was a prisoner of war for a while. His love for flying was evident from early on in his life. In pictures that were displayed at his memorial, John can be seen playing with model airplanes. This continued throughout his life. He was a very active modeler. He flew with many different clubs. I know that he flew with the Monroe club, Flying Tigers, Weak Signals, Sun Parlor in Canada and others. As we all know John had many exciting stories from his activities. He not only had a great love for model aircraft, he still had a strong desire to fly in the real thing. He would visit Tony Barnam and would always try to snag a ride with someone. I have tried to post a few pictures of John on our web site in the gallery. We will always keep John in our memories.

Other members are fighting difficulties this month. Norm Riley had open heart surgery for a quadruple by-pass operation. And Gary Weber has suffered some very serious heart problems. Although his heart is not in strong condition, the Doctors had no other choice then to try and operation. We all hope for the best for Norm and Gary.

The Expo is not far away. Remember that there is a mandatory meeting at the work night on Wednesday March 30, 2005. The work night begins at 6:00 and roll call will be after the work is finished. Make sure you are present as this is one of the requirements for club membership.

Scott Foster has been developing a system for using variable pitch propellers in electric powered aircraft. By reversing the pitch, the aircraft can sometimes actually fly backwards. Scott has received 2 outstanding awards at the Electric Fly In in Columbus, Ohio. Scott received the Outstanding Flight Award and the Pilot’s Choice Award. Congratulations to Scott on a great job.

During the Expo weekend, the Electric Tournament of Champions will take place. Scott Foster and Andrew Jesky have been invited to participate. This is a great honor since you can only participate by being invited. The best electric indoor pilots in the nation will be competing. On behalf of the club members I wish Scott and Andrew good luck.

Archie Adamisin has informed me that the Weak Signals R/C Club has been awarded the 2005 FAI F5D Electric Team Trials to be held at our club field on Labor Day week end, September 2, 3, 4. More information will follow.

It is time to check all of your equipment for proper operation, especially the batteries. It is also time to think spring, think spring, think spring, think spring, think spring, think spring, think spring, think spring, think spring, think spring.

That’s all for now
