A great big thank you goes out to Norm Riley, Jerry Sorosiak, and Ron Webb for all the time they spend setting on the tractor while mowing. This spring has got to be the greatest grass growing season in history. I know that every time I go out to fly, one of these guys are mowing the grass. It generally takes about 15 hours to cut the whole field. Sometimes as soon as they get done mowing it’s time to start all over again. The entire membership owes these guys a debt of gratitude. Thanks guys. A couple of contests have been held. The rained out Fun Fly was held and the weather was only a little better. And our first Pylon Race under the new engine, plane rule was held. I think Jim Skolmowski did a fine job in coming with a formulation to make most sport planes and racing planes very equal. There were an assorted number of planes and no one kind of plane dominated the contest. Most planes were competitive. We tried to have a beginners training session on the Saturday before the contest. We had 9-10 experienced guys ready to help, but no one showed up to take advantage of the learning session. A new member Phil Toyne, volunteered to be the CD for this contest and did a fine job. We had 11 fliers. It would be more ideal if we could get 15 fliers at a pylon race. There would be more time between rounds for pilots and callers. We are going to be taking a hard look at the numbers to see if the club should continue the pylon races. At a recent club meeting Jim counted about a dozen hands of new guys that thought they might participate. The contest was fun and pretty laid back. A good time was had by all. The Monday night sailplane league had a great turn out on the 17 th. There were 37+ people in attendance. There have been some pictures of the sailplane league posted on our web page. Remember, go to “www.toledoshow.com” and click the Members Area button then click on Gallery. They weather station has been out of commission for a while, but Rick Lederman is on top of the repairs and we expect the weather to be back in operation by the time you get this newsletter. Gary Weber was able to come out to the pylon race and offer his experience by helping run the contest. Gary still is facing a couple of rounds of treatment, but it was good to see him back at the field. All the members wish you the best of luck Gary. The Whitaker household is very busy now. Like many others, we have a graduation going on, but we also have a son, Shane, who is in the reserves and is being deployed to Kosovo for a total of about 8-9 months. I am sure many of you have relatives or friends in the military. Now is a good time to give a deep thought to the service that these individuals provide for all of us. May they all be safe. That’s all for now Dave WhitakerFrequency Distribution Chart |
