On the October 23, 2004 , several members met at the LaSalle Field to participate in a work party. We started at 10:00 a.m. Several trees were taken down and cut up and stacked. This will supply us with some welcomed heat in the club house this winter. John Root did a great job of organizing the event. Several members brought their own chain saws, and one member transported a rented log splitter. Bill Cunningham loved sitting on top of the BIG tractor. The tractor was loaned to us by our good neighbor Scott Otto. Bill Cunningham was busy all day dragging the logs to the cut up area. John counted 19 members. I would like to thank them for their hard work. The work continued to well past 3:00 p.m. It started raining and we were all happy that it did. We were very tired and that was a good excuse to stop and go home and get some rest.

John Root has submitted this report. The following members attended the work session. Hopefully, I have not missed anyone:

Bill Cunningham
Steve Guerrero
Kevin Haubert
Keith Haubert
Bob Kane
Bill Kozzman
Steve Lockwood
Dave Myers
Norm Riley
Mike Siciliano
Jim Skolmowski
Nick Skolmowski
Phil Smith
Bill Sommers
Jerry Sorosiak
Paul Trestan
Ron Webb
Dave Whitaker

It was well attended and the men worked energetically from 9:30 AM to approx. 3:00PM when rain and exhaustion brought the event to a halt.

I thank each of you for the great effort and time you gave to this event. A special thanks goes to our neighbor Scott Otto for the loan of his tractor. Also, thank you to Steve Guerrero for obtaining the log splitter. Thanks to Bill Sommers for the use of his shredder. Thanks to the men who brought their chain saws. I estimate we have cut and stacked approx. 7 chords of wood. That's a great job well done !!!

As president, I was invited to the Monroe Cloudbusters annual banquet. Sherrie and I enjoyed ourselves very much. The club is very active, and works very hard to train new pilots. I am pleased at the number of ladies who are very active in the club and participate in flying. The Cloudbusters held a huge raffle for there members. There were some great prizes. I would like to point out that about 8 of their members are members of the Weak Signal Club also. Members were encouraged to come in Halloween costumes with the best costume winning a prize. It was great fun and I would like to thank the Monroe Cloudbusters.

At the October 28, 2004 club meeting, the club voted to add the position of Safety Officer to the By-laws. This position will be appointed by the Board of Directors. With that in mind, I would like to ask any member that may be willing to fill this position to let me know right away. This is a great chance for a member to get involved with the activities of the club. WE REALLY NEED A MEMBER TO TAKE THIS POSITION. Please consider taking the Safety Officer position.

We had some nice models at the show and tell part of our meeting. I encourage all members to bring in the latest projects and share them with the membership. Tim Wolff brought a neat little indoor electric. Later Tim flew the plane in the hall. That was cool.

John Root reminded all the members that the water will be shut off for the winter and the lines drained before we have a hard freeze. So when you go to the field remember that you may not have water and bring your own if needed. Also John has scheduled to have our golf carts taken for normal routine maintenance. So don't be surprised if they are not there.

I have appointed Dave Myers as next years Master Contest Director. If you have any suggestions or comments concerning the contest season for next year then Dave Myers is the man to contact. Also I know Dave will be looking for volunteers to be individual contest directors. If you would like to CD a contest again, Dave is the man to contact.

The Annual Awards Banquet is approaching quickly on November 13, 2004 . After the awards this year there will be something new to hold you attention. There is going to be a reverse raffle. That means that the last number drawn will win the big prize. There will be other prizes awarded periodically throughout the drawings. It sounds exciting. Make sure you are there.

I have one more reminder. Make sure you show your 2005 AMA card to Brian Reash before December 31, 2004 . It is mandatory by our by-laws.

The Greater Detriot Soaring and Hiking Society have requested the use of our field to host their annual Sno-Fli. We have hosted this event for many years and it was renamed the Art Slagle Memorial Sno-Fli. Art was a member of the Weak Signals. He passed away in September of 2002. The club granted the use of the field on February 19, 2005 . We have had a great increase in the interest of sailplanes in our club for the past couple of years. I would like to see a very large turn out of club members for this contest in February. Make plans now to be there and join the fun.

Also, just because the weather is getting cooler, that is not a reason to hang your planes on the wall. There are several members that like to fly all year long. So join the fun and continue to fly. See you at the field.

That’s all for now.
