We have beaten the pylon race thing to death at several meetings. The consensus as I heard it, is that we want to give racing another year. And... All the hands were up waving that we should have “Fly-What-Ya-Got” pylon events. I saw a lot of new hands waiving so hope you guys all stick to your word. Based on the number of hands I saw I will schedule three races next year. Two will be pretty much cast in stone and a third will be a “To Be Announced” contest. If we have a fair number of racers I will use it for a third race. If not, we will use the third date for a make-up or an additional contest of one of the highly attended events. It looks like there are many rules below but there really aren't. You will notice that all these rules when combined simply say, keep it standard and keep it within manufacturer specs.
Here are the rules Airplanes must be readily available, either recently or currently produced standard production kits. No exotic junk.
The following is a list of allowed engine sizes based on wing area. I used the Tiger 2 with OS 46 as my baseline: In forming the chart I also took into consideration typical kit manufacturer guidelines for engine size. There is no way to make all planes fly exactly the same speed. These rules have been set up to try and keep things close, but more importantly make sure that almost everyone has something in their stable that is flyable and somewhat competitive .
The following is a sample list of aircraft and allowed engines (see, I really work hard for you guys). This is not all-inclusive. YOU CAN FLY JUST ABOUT ANYTHING YOU HAVE . If you have specific inquiries call your MCD for a ruling. The engine factor column is wing area divided by engine size. The factor is something I used for my calculations; just worry about the “allowed engine size” column. This all may look complicated but if you look closely you will note that in most cases the engine size specified is the same as the manufacture specification.
Racing is a lot of fun guys and gals. If you have any questions please feel free to call me. If there are a lot of new folks that want to get in on this let me know. If we get enough interest from some of the new members or those that haven't raced, we will go out on a Saturday before the first race, set up some pylons and have school.
